Native border around Lifestyle block
Our client had a Three acre lifestyle block on which he wished to plant a native border which would be well established when he built his house 3-5 years later. The land was x farm land, windswept and exposed it had quite a slope in places and the planting would have to look after itself as there was no one living on site. Stage 1 was planted in August 2004. After spraying off the area to be planted we fertiliser the ground with 200 grams of lime and 100 grams of general fertilser per square metre. With each plant we used 3 litres of compost and a 2 year fertiliser tablet. On all but the steepest slopes we laid weedmat and then covered the whole planting area with a 100mm thick layer of post peelings.
21 months later the planting was well established
Planting around a new house
Our client wished to establish gardens around his new hom that would give him some protection from the wind while not blocking too much of his view. The site was windswept, including salt laden wind, and the ground was basically sand with a very thin layer of topsoil on the surface. He wanted a low maintenance garden with plants that would cope with the adverse conditions.
We planted a range of native and exotic plants, every plant receiving 10 litres of compost/topsoil mix as well as a 2 year fertiliser tablet. We then laid weedmat and put on that a thick layer of post peelings. The garden was then edged with grey/blue rocks.
The photos below were taken a year after planting.
